Hyperledger, which is an umbrella project of open source blockcahins and related tools, sanctioned five companies to offer support, consulting, training and professional services to other enterprises exploring blockchain technologies. The three U.S. members are IBM, Ant Financial and Beijing Peersafe, which raised a series C funding from Shanghai Civil Military Integration Development Fund investing in dual-use technologies that could be used for both civilian and military purposes, Technology.
The partnership Peersafe, which is a high-tech Internet company professional engaged in the research and development, product sales, technical services of the decentralized network protocol, has adopted will cradle a profound cohesion with its clients in the military and government agencies.
Peersafe belongs to three qualifications one is the Commercial Cryptography product category certificate another one is Sales Permit of Information Security Products for the Ministry of Public Security and Software Supplier for the Central Government Agencies. The company has been qualified by hyperledger Fabric, which is a modular blockchain framework which acts as a foundation for developing blockchain-based products, solutions and applications using plug-and-play components that are aimed for use within the private enterprises, by the new certification program.
Use cases or fields
The biggest applications of Peersafe, assisting rebuilt blockchain-based trade finance platform having more than $53 billion transaction volume, for China might be for bolstering government control of the military. They are also helping police to secure footage and data transmission in its surveillance systems. With an eye to extending military management, a plan over leveraging blockchain technologies has been illustrated by military officials.
Chinese military wants to secure classified information and communication, evaluate military training performances and monitor logistics through using blockchain technology. The army could do this with very lower costs. Hopefully the smart contract protocol could build technical trust and secure peer-to-peer communications where people from different departments can collaborate without approvals from higher levels.
The private military fund that fetched into Peersafe is part of Shanghai Guosheng Group and the fund was set up back in 2017 during Chinese President Jinping Xi’s push for civil-military technology integrations. China’s impetus for pursuing CMI as a core component of its PLA reforms is in large part a result of its reckoning with modern technology-driven warfare.
An assumption says civil-military integration initiatives could reduce China’s military budget. There is a solid foundation existing for the firm to expand into the military security industry because of special qualifications in the industry and existing use cases across different sectors.
Army printer toner cartridges
The blockchain universe-opening up to Peersafe via the Chinese army is evidenced by the case of the printer toner cartridges developed through cryptography. Hengjiu Technology is a toner cartridges producer for printer. Military and government will be two of the driving forces for information security industry. Hengjiu has a longstanding partnership with PLA to restrain eavesdropping bugs from accessing the overlooked backdoor. Yet China is far away from the use of blockchain for military uses but a near future is being foreseen by U.S. and Russia in the field. The research arm of the U.S. Department of Defense DARPA, The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, wants to create more efficient and secure platform to allow personnel from anywhere to transmit messages or process transactions that can be traced through several channels of a decentralized ledger.
