The king of the social media announces its new blockchain and the token of the same name. For using Libra no facebook account is needed. The breadth of the project is deep-rooted which incorporates a new Facebook subsidiary, Calibra, and an independent consortium, Libra Association. Elliptic in the project is that whatever the Mastercard or Visa logo are accepted, Libra would allow suit. There is inclusion of Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Uber, Lyft, Coinbase and others by the Libra Association’s group of 28 founding members. Customers have a number of options in holding or transferring Facebook’s Libra which has focus on international remittances. Calibra is very much willing to launch a digital wallet for the Libra Coin and it will help users to transfer funds to each other and also to store their tokens locally. An app was revealed on IOS and android and other social Medias through which customers are able to access the wallet. May be the Libra blockchain will be launched next year.

Extending the unbanked

According to TechCrunch WhatsApp saw 1.5 billion active users monthly and globally 1.7 billion adults remain unbanked. The new goal is to extend the network to that population. They highly want to create an ecosystem to empower billions of people. Though many companies are backing the project, so it is expected that one day more people will access to this project and capital. Half of the adults in the world even don’t have active bank account so they are now out of reach of any financial service. An example stands that nearly 70 percent of small businesses in developing countries lack access to credit and $25 billion is lost by migrants every year through remittance fees. Many NGOs are involved in the Libra Association. There is a need of a five-year track record of poverty alleviation work including digital financial inclusion initiatives in the field and an operating budget of more than $50 million with a view to participating non-profits for becoming a social impact partner.  

Calibra wants to expand their service to pay bills and purchase goods and services. Customers will be able to send funds within a very short time. Though the app users can  see their balances while sending libra coin.

Regulatory Willingness

Calibra is focusing on regulation highly with KYC form and anti-money-laundering. Registration to U.S. Department of Treasury has been done by Calibra is working to obtain money transmitter licenses in U.S. states. Financial Action Task Force and other national regulators issued some guidelines which are being followed by also subsidiary. They are determined not follow conditions out of guidelines. Calibra is highly committed to work in favor of the law and its globally. Through producing multiple key-pairs, a user is free to create multiple accounts. Those who are other wallet providers will be able to build products on Libra protocol. As like as bank, Calibra will also follow similar verification and anti-fraud procedures. They are intent to monitoring accounts with a view to breakthrough fraudulent activity.
